Throughout World War 1 and World War 2, the Girl Guide Gazette, The Guider and The Guide magazines were published – and they carried a varied selection of activities and suggestions for their members to carry out at wartime unit meetings. On this page, I will post examples of games and activities drawn from these, which units could use as inspiration in planning modern commemoration activities and unit programmes.
World War I Games
The Game of Imitation (from Girl Guide Gazette, January 1915)
The game requires a leader, a referee, and the remaining Guides sitting in a row. The Leader performs an action (e.g. waving right hand) and the remaining Guides should do the opposite action (waving left hand). Anyone who gives the wrong action, or is too slow in responding, loses a point, or becomes the team leader.
